The Current Resonance Project is a new duo that aims to focus on the compositions of our time. Due to a struggling economy that is hindering opportunities for musicians and artists, the Current Resonance Project is committed to the exploration of a sound world comprised of limited resources. The combination of piano, found sounds and electronics will be the basis for commissioning new works.
Recent graduates from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, pianist Mallory Bernstein and percussionist Shawn Savageau have just relocated to Denver, Colorado. They are determined to develop their artistic ideas despite small living accommodations and lack of large percussion instruments. During their move to Colorado, many of Shawn’s instruments were stolen but the duo has decided to use this unfortunate situation as the premise for utilizing attainable objects to create music and to commission new works.
Mallory and Shawn feel that their personal experiences are symbolic of what their generation is going through in terms of working with what you have in order to make ends meet and hope that the Current Resonance Project will inspire and promote creativity despite hardship.
DEBUT: June 2nd and June 3rd 2013 at the Space Gallery in Denver. 5 world premieres! More details to come.
